TOP ALBUMS OF 2006 (25-1)

Continuing On... #25 MELIGROVE BAND - Planets Conspire I`ve had the pleasure of watching these guys grow up (I saw them randomly when I was in High School......and they were too) I even have a copy of Stars & Guitars..But Back to the album, This is the album I`ve been waiting for these guys to put out....and its about friggin time..All it took was a little bit of help from Jose Meligrove Band - Everyone`s A Winner Meligrove Band - Planests Conspire #24 WHITEST BOY ALIVE - Dreams This came out of nowhere for me..All of a sudden one day..Here`s a new album featuring Erland Oye (Kings Of Convenience) and its a mix of dance pop..Imagine a album full of "I `d rather dance with you" numbers..Which is awesome for me cause that was my favourite track from Riot On An Empty Street. Whitest Boy Alive - Fireworks Whitest Boy Alive - Inflation #23 ARTIC MONKEYS - Whatever People Say I`m Not Started out as one of my favourite albums of 2006. But too much radio play and hearing too much of it as droped it down to #23..Still a solid effort though. Not a big hit with the critics but I enjoy it and was played a lot on my record player this year Artic Monkeys - Fake Tales Of San Francisco Artic Monkeys - Dancing Shoes #22 MYLO - Destroy Rock & Roll K back off for a min and let me explain (cause the new version of this album was released in 2005)..I couldn`t find this album in any record store in town...I had to drive to friggin Toronto to buy it on vinyl...this year..So I`m counting it as a 2006 album..Another wicked electronic album, featured in a few commericals this year..I love it..Your should too Mylo - Drop The Pressure Mylo - Sunworshipper #21 COLD WAR KIDS - Robbers & Cowards Everybody loves the damn Cold War Kids..I didn`t even do a post on this album cause every other Blogger on the planet already beat me to it..I love em to, and so does Patricia...She`s a big fan of We Used To Vacation..So I`ll leave ya with that as well as my fave! Cold War Kids - We Used To Vacation Cold War Kids - Tell Me In The Morning #20 SQUARE ROOT OF MARGARET - Cloud Nine Revisited The last two albums released by SROM have been astonishing!!..and all 13 tracks are something new to look forward too..I`ve had the pleasure of seeing these guys live a few times and they don`t dissapoint...Please check out the Website and maybe buy a few records! (you can tell I love em) Square Root Of Margaret - I Don`t Know Why? Square Root Of Margaret - Whispers Sometimes #19 DECEMBERISTS - Crane Wife Finally got this album on vinyl the other day...I took it easy on this one, knowing that it was coming out on vinyl I didn`t listen to it that much until now...I especially enjoy hearing Laura Veirs on Yankee Bayonet..Her and Colin sound so magical together..I will probably regret putting this at 19 later...when it should be closer to 1.. Decemberists - Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then) Decemberists - Summersong #18 K-OS Atlantis This one is kinda easy...I knew it was going to be a great record from the get go...It felt like it took forever to come out though..Its hilarious cause as a Cable Guy I get to go into a lot of peoples houses...and a week before it was released I herd it playing in a few peoples houses..and not one song, the whole album...I also am a huge fan of hip-hop with live drums, which there is a lot of on this album. K-Os - Born To Run K-Os - Black Ice - Hymn For Disco #17 SONIC YOUTH - Rather Ripped Ahh..soo good to hear another great album from Sonic Youth...its been too long...My record doesn`t look like this, the vinyl cover is different then the CD cover....So it took me a while to find it..when it was right in front of my face the whole time..Interesting (From Wiki) "It was reported that some of the gear stolen in 1999 was surprisingly recovered and that it may have been used for recording of the album Sonic Youth - Reena Sonic Youth - Incinerate #16 + - Let`s Build A Fire A very unique listen at first and I knew I would be a fan afer I herd the first few tracks..Then it was right to the laptop to see if there was any other albums by these guys..If I had a few extra $ and a car and lived in Toronto I`d be going to see em on the 29 of Nov @ Sneeky Dee`s..So if you plan on going...let me know how the show goes and send me some pics! +- = Leap Year +- = One Day You`ll Be Here #15 BELLE & SEBASTIAN - The Life Persuit This is a good album, which shocks the shit outta me..I thought it would be tough for B&S to release another good album after the departure of Isobel Campbell...but they did it...Still havn`t seen em live yet (punch myself in the face)..I love Song For Sunshine, it has such an interesing keyboard sound to it and sounds very 60`s! Belle & Sebastian - Song For Sunshine Belle & Sebastian - We Are The Sleepyheads #14 SPARKLEHORSE - Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain I`ve said on here before that I think Mark Linkous is my new Elliott Smith..(I still stand by that btw) and to have Danger Mouse produce your album...we`ll that is just brilliant in my books..It does have more of an electronic feel then the last one (that was released 5 yrs ago) which seemed to be the trend this year.. Sparklehorse - Don`t Take My Sunshine Away Sparklehorse - Getting It Wrong #13 WE ARE SCIENTISTS - With Love And Squalor Lucky number 13 gives us the We Are Scientists. The first album this year that I fell in love with..They make so much noise as a three peice and the bass player is hilarious with the mouctache (yeah I saw em @ The Horseshoe earlier this year)..This album is pretty solid from start to finish and will get you running for your dancing shoes! We Are Scientists - Cash Cow We Are Scientists - This Scene Is Dead #12 SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT - Not Saying, Just Saying Shit, I don`t have enough room to describe everything that makes this band rock..Actually go HERE to see what I`ve already said..The only thing that sucks is that there is only 9 songs on this album. Sorry but I`m a little greedy when an album like this comes along...I want at least 15 songs..:-) Shout Out Out Out Out - Dude You Feel Electrical Shout Out Out Out Out - Forever Indebted #11 SLOAN - Never Hear The End Of It Lots to say so I gotta shorten this up...Good to hear Andrew back singing, I love how they decided 30 would be a good amount of songs..Not really a fan of the single..I think the band just said "Hey its Jay`s turn for a single"..which brings me to my last point what`s with Jay infront of everyone else(on the cover)..Usually its Chris..A+ album! Sloan - Ana Lucia Sloan - Can`t You Figure It Out #10 CLIPSE - Hell Hath No Fury Counting us down from 10 is Clipse...I just can`t stop listening to this album..What I like to do is listen from track 1-12...I rarely skip a track that`s how good the album is on a whole..u get the point..Ride Around Shining is probably my favourite track right now..and I expect big numbers from P`Fork sometime soon! Clipse - Ride Around Shining Clipse - Trill #9 MATES OF STATE - Bring It Back Another band who playes a very loud show ..Especially with only 2 members...After seeing them live I have a new outlook on them..They are very cute together (they are married if you didn`t know) and you can tell that they enjoy each other as well as making music together..I herd somewhere that they bring their daughter on tour sometimes and a baby sitter takes care of her while they play.. Mates Of State - Fraud In The 80`s Mates Of State - Like U Crazy #8 JUNIOR BOYS - So This Is Goodbye How is it that the Junior Boys where formed 1hr away from where I live and I have never seen em live?.I was a huge fan of Depeche Mode growing up, and this CD kinda brings me back to that a little..The record in general puts me in a good mood and I love the album art..I would love to crop it, and blow it up and have it as a picture Junior Boys - Double Shadow Junior Boys - The Equalizer #7 THE LOVELY FEATHERS - Hind Hind Legs I have two copies of this album that`s how much I love it..They played Call The Office earlier this year and no one went. I was kinda shocked, I thought the buzz had gotten out..Regardless they played a very entertaining set and its was kinda humerious in a way..The Keyboardist was wearing a super-hero suit to start..So I chuckle a little when I listen to this CD..Very danceable too! The Lovely Feathers - In The Valley The Lovely Feathers - Breakfast Cake #6 THE HOLD STEADY - Boys & Girls In America My first CD by the Hold Steady, so I got a good first impression..After reading the explosive review on P`Fork (9.4/10) I was curious to see what the hype was all about and...then...I was hooked..Patricia enjoyed it right off the bat as well and we immediatly got tickets for the next show in Toronto...Chillout Tent is freakin awesome! The Hold Steady - Chips Ahoy! The Hold Steady - Chillout Tent #5 SOUNDTEAM - Movie Monster I hate to bring up Pitchfork again but I don`t know what they were smoking when they reviewed this CD (HERE)...A 3.7 out of 10..What the hell is that..This CD is outragously good!!..I talked to the boys last time they were in town and they are all super nice..They even signed my record..I find you need the lyric book out though while listening...Makes it more enjoyable! Soundteam - Back In Town Soundteam - No More Birthdays #4 BAND OF HORSES - Everything All The Time I don`t understand why these guys never shot up to mainstream status?..Or why everyone doesn`t own this record...Its always been an easy sell to whoever I entroducee the album too..I havn`t had one person tell me they didn`t like it..That`s how catchy it is..Also can`t forget that concert..WOW..Probably the best I`ve seen all year! Band Of Horses - Wicked Gil Band Of Horses - Weed Party #3 PHOENIX - Its Never Been Like That Wow I thought the first CD "United" was good..This one for me blows it out of the park..A great collection of very dancy pop gems..This CD is special for me cause I saw them for Free @ The Mod Club (Finally) and they played the whole album..My jaw hurt after cause it was open the whole time.. Phoenix - Long Distance Call Phoenix - One Time Too Many #2 HOT CHIP - The Warning They havn`t invented a word yet to decribe my love for this album..I payed a lot of money for my Vinyl copy, but it was totally worth it...and if my record collection caught on fire I would miss this album the most..I downloaded The Warning as Patricia`s ringtone and it still hasn`t changed..(and that was months ago)..By far my favourite electronic album this year Hot Chip - Colours Hot Chip - Boys From School #1 DESTROYER - Rubies I swear my iPod whispers "This Again"? under its breath whenever I listen to this album..I must say this is the album I`ve been waiting for from Dan Bejar & Co..and he delivered..I will never get bored of this CD, and I`m very confident in chosing "Rubies" as my number one...I also own two copies of this record as well..Its another one of those things that you can enjoy from beginning to end...but I enjoy it all the time..Most of the songs were on my "Most Played" iTunes list....Some in triple digits! Destroyer - Watercolours Into The Ocean Destroyer - Your Blood _____________________________________________________ That just about does it for my Top 50 Albums of 2006. I hope you enjoyed the list.
