Rogue Wave Tonight....Archive Update.

I`m very excited for the Rogue Wave show @ The Mod Club tonight...If u come here once in awhile then you already know I`m a big fan. This will be my second time seeing the band live, and what makes this one more exciting is I will get to hear the new material. Young Galaxy & Enon

Two records that have caught my ear this week are Enon`s latest release "Grass Geysers.....Carbon Clouds" and Young Galaxy`s Self Titled. This is my first record experience with both bands. Enon has other albums, but I`ve never checked em out ......and this is the first record from Young Galaxy. I`ve been in a female vocals meets rockin guitar mood as of late and both LP`s fit the profile. I get a little more of a shoegaze feel outta Young Galaxy though....and a more Indie-Pop feel outta Enon.....both records are worth a listen and are better played from track 1 to end...Yes the songs I give you today are good tracks, but to really experience the album all tracks are to be listened to in order.....Sorry I find myself in a real push to support good music after Oink`s downfall the other day....I found a great website that has been keeping me up to date too....CN Oink Updates = http://oinkmemorial.blogspot.com/ Enon - Colette Enon - Sabina Young Galaxy - Searchlight Young Galaxy - Come And See

A few shots from last nights show at Call The Office.....Both Peter Elkas and The Golden Dogs put on very energetic sets.....especially for a random Tues night.....I got the chance to see some old friends and we shared a few laughs. It wasn`t all laughter yesterday though.... I find myself a little pissed that Oink (one of the biggest online sharing communities) has been taken down....Pissed because I feel like I`m stuck. On one hand I can understand why the Music Industry would be after a site like Oink. CD sales are at an all time low, and artists are being bled dry! Any cent made off an album is going straight to the record company and not the artist. Myself I found a lot of music through Oink, and although I may not have ran out the door to buy every album...I did buy a lot of music, or saw a band live cause I herd a few tracks from Oink. On the other hand the IFPI are killing this wonderfull thing called art....and that`s what music is people "Art", a creation! Every wonder why you don’t hear the Velvet Underground, or The Replacements, or R.E.M. on the radio? (and if you do its the same friggin song?) Oink created a community where large numbers of people had ready access to art, and art should be free to the public. (Yes it has to be funded, but there are ways of funding it other than intellectual copyright.) Oink was something to be intensely proud of. It was one of the best online music libraries I’ve ever seen. I got a lot of good records because of it, and I shared a lot of good records with other people. That’s not “stealing,” that’s educating. Bottom line: Support Free Music.....But Also Support The Artists!! I think I`m going to make a trip down to Call The Office tonight for The Golden Dogs & Mr Peter Elkas. I`ve been a follower of Elkas since his days with the lovely Local Rabbits. I havn`t yet herd his new album....but from what I`ve read so far its pretty good.   Its probably gonna be a night of new music cause I`ve never herd of The Golden Dogs either.....I know, I know.....never herd! Anyone watch Game 7 last night??.....it was pretty close until Boston walked away with it...Good for them for making a trip back to the world series..... I ve been in a real Beatles mood lately. It all started when I saw Across The Universe a couple weeks ago. I always love these moods, it hasn`t happened  in awhile but I love it when it comes. I like everyone else on the planet grew up to The Beatles, and that`s why I think a majority of people love em. Brood & Creed

It got a little blurry last night at the Elliott Brood concert.....or Broodster as we call him in our camp (not really). I was sweatin to the oldies too...whatsup with this +25 weather in October? Anyway the Broodster played a good set, I had never seen him live before....and I wasn`t expecting such a loud sound out of 3 guys...1 with a banjo, the other playing acoustic guitar and bass (with his feet) and then a drummer Steve Pitkin (Who I happen to recognize from the old Flashing Lights)  I think I found the best record today. Its an old Grass Roots LP.....WTF is The Grass Roots?...Well let me explain. N.L. Mailbox

When I first stared this blog I used to average about 1 promo disk a month.....Now I feel like I get a few CD`s every week. Which is totally awesome, I`m not complaining at all. But its starting to get a lil outta hand...Which brings me to the N.L. Mailbox (N.L. = Neiles Life) I`m thinking about starting a weekly/bi-weekly feature showcasing the best music that has hit my mailbox! Tempo No Tempo are a dance/rock outfit from the sunny state of California. Picture Bloc Party........without the British accents of course! Their Repetition EP is set to be released on Nov 13. In the mood for a lil country? Then Corb Lund may be what your looking for. I`m not usually a big fan of country, but the single Horse Soldier, Horse Soldier is actually decent. The album of the same name is set to be released on Nov 13 as well. I also have a track by an artist named Emily Jane White. I don`t know much about her but she also has a new album coming out in Nov. Wanna know more about these artists? Wooden Sky.....In Rainbows

I`ve been meaning to talk about Toronto`s Wooden Sky for a few weeks now. I happened to see em open up for Chad VanGaalen and they quickly blew my mind. There about as Indie Rock as it gets too...Their album When Lost At Sea is a fantastic listen as well....it has a very Woodsy Feel to it (banjos, violins....etc)...Check em out if they ever come to your hometown....Now I`m not going to comment much on the new Radiohead album...well cause everyone else...its pretty flippin good......and that`s all I have to say about that...CN The Wooden Sky - This Bird Has Flown The Wooden Sky - The Wooden Sky Radiohead - Bodysnatchers

Good To Sea!

Yes I did see Pinback this weekend @ The Opera House. Not my favourite venue in the world, but beggars can`t be choosers. It was well worth the $$ too, they played for over two hours. Ripping threw a ton of old material and playing a few new ones as well. There was a few jerks who thought that talking and being loud drunks was hilarious.....almost ruined the show for me.....but I out smarted them.......and moved. I would also like to say that Zach Smith is one hell of a bass player and was pretty much the show on Friday night.....I`m pretty excited about the music I`m leaving ya today cause I was in a lil bit of a Hip-Hop mood this weekend....3 of the tracks I highly recommend. The cover of "My Song" by The Streets is horrible though. Mike Skinner totally kills the song.....and I wanna vomit when I hear him attempt to sing in key...Stick to Hip-Hop Mike!....Aseop Rock, Ohmega Watts, and NAS all have new albums coming out this year (NAS=Greatest Hits), so be sure to grab them!..CN Ohmega Watts - Model Citizen Aesop Rock - Five Fingers Nas - NY State Of Mind The Streets - Your Song (Elton John Cover)

Shut Up News.

Lots on the brain today....1st I gotta bitch about Pitchfork & Metacritic reviews of The Fiery Furnaces new LP Widow City......Are u kidding me??...A shitty 7 outta 10 from both sides??..Sorry guys but this album deserves a lot more then that. This is defiantly the Friedbergers best effort ....and I always hear something new whenever I listen. The vinyl was certainly worth it....some cute shots of Eleanor and....Lyrics!! Every song is beautifully crafted, and I wouldn`t be surprised if this record landed in my top 5 of 2007.  \ I will be hitting the road this weekend.......yet again. I`m going to be checkin out Pinback @ The Opera House, which should be a blast....I already praised the new album last week, and I have gotten into their older material.....and am lovin it too! Voxtrot Canceled!..NYC Instead??

A lil bit of a frustrating evening last night...The plan originally was to drive to Hamilton, visit family for a bit, and then head to Club Absinthe for Uncut & Voxtrot. So we did just that.....until we got to the bar only to find out that Voxtrot had canceled due to a illness. Which totally sucked caused Uncut didn`t play as well. Pinback & NBA Live

I have been absolutely lovin the new Pinback album. Didn`t really get into the last album or the band in general but Autumn Of The Seraphs has been doing thousands of laps on the turn table.   I also got the new NBA game for the Nintendo Wii. Not a bad game yet I find myself super disappointed that I can`t create a player or do a dynasty league. The online play is pretty impressive considering its a wireless connection, I didn`t find it lagging at all....and I finally am starting to win games...anyway`s have a good weekend...CN Pinback - Good To Sea Pinback - Torch

John Vanderslice @ Blind Pig

Yes...Finally after years of waiting....I have finally seen JV live and in concert....and it was well worth the wait....oh and I only had to drive 2 and 1/2 hrs to see him. He played mostly Pixal Revolt and the new album Emerald City...which I finally got on vinyl....what else...oh he came out to the audience for his encore. Which I`ve never seen before.
